“How do I know if counselling is for me?”
Counselling can be a big step and one that isn’t made easily. It’s important to make sure that you and your counsellor are a good fit. I offer each new client a 15-minute phone conversation to assess your needs and determine whether I will be able to provide the support you’re looking for. This is also an opportunity for clients to get a feel for whether I’m a good fit for them.
“How long do sessions last and how often will I be expected to attend?”
Individual sessions are 50 minutes long and couple sessions are typically 75 minutes. The frequency of sessions is dependent upon your needs and goals but people typically begin attending sessions weekly or bi-weekly. This is something we will decide together.
“What if I have to cancel my appointment?”
You can change or cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance. It is important that I maintain a cancellation policy so the people waiting for support can access it.
“Is counselling confidential?”
Confidentiality is a very important component of counselling because it helps build trust and safety. I go over the expectations and limits to confidentiality with each client before support begins so you have a clear understanding of what to expect.
